Living up to its name, The Nines is a luxury boutique hotel in Portland Oregon is fabulous. This boutique Portland hotel was originally the flagship store and headquarters for Meier & Frank, once the largest retailer west of the Mississippi and that is reflected in the art and architecture. The first thing you notice when you get off the elevators and enter the lobby is the amazing sculptures. The sculptures and paintings were chosen by Paige Powell, a muse of Andy Warhol and it is woven throughout the common areas, giving a feeling that you are someplace amazing. It is worth a trip to the Nines for the art alone. The hotel service is outstanding and the rooms are beautifully appointed and relaxing. While at the hotel, I suggest sipping a glass of Veuve Clicquot (or something yummy) on the couches of the outdoor deck of Departures Restaurant and Lounge on the top floor of the hotel. There are great views of the city, mountains and river. Urban Farmer, the restaurant on the lobby level offered a delicious meal including a fresh cheese selection including ricotta from their own cow Charlotte, followed by beautiful locally sourced meats.
Tip: There are so many things to do in Portland but I would definitely suggest taking the light rail to Washington Park where you can explore the Japanese Gardens, Rose Gardens, the Oregon Zoo, and so much more. Go to dinner at Paley’s Place for gastronomic delight. I loved the five grain risotto with braised rabbit, foie gras butter, puffed sorghum and pistachio.
