Cristiano Burani showed his Fall Winter 2019 collection, #Tokyounfinished, in Milan Fashion Week. The Japan inspired looks are shown amongst Roman columns and arches. This setting reinforces the fact that while his inspiration was Japan; the collection is made in country by Italian artisans.
Burani reinterprets Japanese imaginary by hand applied details that are added to each piece. Coats, jackets and trench coats are embroidered with mohair threads in geographic shapes. Sleeves are long and flared. Pants are wide legged with lengths varying from knee to floor. Coats hint at kimonos but with an urban, contemporary view.
Autumn foliage in Japanese gardens is shown by warm tones reproduced with handmade multicolor prints. Tokyo Winter is reflected in irregular shades and patterns.
Shirt dresses are redefined and spectacular, adding embossed denim with handmade knitwear or abstract black and white prints. If I had to pick one “must have” piece from Burani’s FW19 collection, it would be the Alpaca high-necked sweaters. Each one is luxurious and edgy with intricate detailing and universally flattering.
